Rebecca Smallwood Which CS or CIS classes have you already taken and passed? None. This is my first semester at SMC. I do have a masters in Library and Information Science, though, which involved some classes on database structure and information organization. Which CS or CIS classes are you currently taking? CS 3, and CS 5, in addition to your CS 80 class. Which existing CS courses are you planning to take? Definitely: CS 60, CS 81, CS 82. Maybe CS 40. I'm still debating whether or not to take the Java path or Oracle...or maybe both. I'm pretty comfortable with my own PHP skills, and would definitely like to do something that's more associated with the business world, such as ASP. I'd also like to expand my knowledge of XHTML and XML, (which I currently know nothing about). My husband keeps making disparaging remarks about Visual Basic, but I think I'll ignore him and take it anyway! What new CS courses would you like to see offered at SMC? Looking through the catalog, it looks like you've got everything covered pretty well, at least as far as the stuff I'm interested in. Which existing CS certificates or degrees are you working towards? I'm currently working towards the Computer Programming certificate, but I was really interested in the Web Programming Certificate that you had mentioned in class, as that's really what I'm aiming for, and am actually trying to use the Computer Programming certificate for. I'll likely be pestering you soon to ask when that new certificate is going to be implemented. If it's soon (within the next year), then I should be fine, because the classes it lists as required are pretty much what I'm planning on taking anyway. What new CS certificates would you like to see offered at SMC? The aforementioned Web Programming Certificate :) Why are you taking this course? It's one of the required courses for the Computer Programming certificate. And while some of it is old hat for me, some of it's new, so I know I'll gain some useful knowledge from it.
